The students are here!!! Tanalian Leadership Center began this week with many fun activities. Our first day as a group, we created a “Grace Covenant” to establish a room of respect, grace, open sharing and foster learning during our Bible class and beyond. There is evident growth in our two returning students, Sophia and Richard and know they will step out as leaders in the group.
Sophia is currently our only female student…but she’s the best! She spent the summer working at a lodge in Port Alsworth and has made many great friendships in the community. I’m excited to have a chance to grow closer with her this winter.
Introduction to Bible class took us out to the runway, where we created a visual timeline of the Bible and where we fit into the story of God. We estimated the end of time, which we decided is relatively close. We talked about seeing Jesus Christ throughout the whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation.
We will cover the majority of scripture from Genesis to Revelation between now and May 2014. We believe lives are changed through Jesus Christ and being in His Word is what brings true heart change. I invite you to join us on the journey of reading the Bible. Follow the daily reading posted on the calendar here: tanalianleadershipcenter.org/what-we-do/biblical-studies
We’ve had a chance to be challenged as a team on the Team Adventure Challenge course. It was encouraging to see unity, encouragement and communication. I’m excited about this group and the dynamic we all ready see! Andrew was blindfolded and led across the raised cable by two students. He was like a stealthy ninja!
I know it just looks like we’re hanging out, but we also had to balance our whole team on an elevated log. A good challenge! TAC was facilitated by Mark & Andrea, who are on staff with us and also have a chance to be involved in the students’ lives.
Students began their jobs within the community this week. Sophia is a teacher’s aide at the Pre-School, Trevor is our first student in the Aviation Program, working to achieve a Mechanic’s Assistance Certificate, Jerome, Richard and Brandon are in the Carpentry Program and will work on several different building projects this year. We are grateful to the community for their partnerships and enjoy seeing other people mentoring and loving these students.
- Pray that our students in their first weeks that they would engage in the Bible and unify as a group.
- Pray for wisdom and direction for our Board of Directors in upcoming decisions.
